Spa Owner Nick Gauntlett chosen to represent Team GBR at the 1st Nations Cup in Fontainbleau by Allen Gutowski

British squad announced for Nations Cup in Fontainebleau

Supported by the UK Sport lottery funded World Class Programme, the British Eventing Senior Selection Committee have selected a team of four riders from the British CICO squad to represent Great Britain at Fontainebleau (FRA) for the first leg of the 2014 FEI Nations Cup Series on the 20th-23rd March 2014.

In consultation with the Selection Committee and Yogi Breisner the Eventing Performance Manager, the Team Manager Philip Surl has selected the four riders named below to represent Team GBR.

In alphabetical order:
Nick Gauntlett riding Grand Manouvre owned by Mrs Diana Chappell

Emily Llewellyn riding either Greenlawn Sky High jointly owned by Mrs Cindy Llewellyn and Mrs Nicolette Gidley Wright or Junior II, also owned by Mrs Cindy Llewellyn.

Gemma Tattersall riding Chico Bella P owned by Mr Christopher Stone.

Izzy Taylor riding KBIS Starlet jointly owned by Mrs Jo Meyer and KBIS British Equestrian or KBIS Starchaser, also owned by Mrs Jo Meyer and KBIS.

David Doel and Lucy Wiegersma will also be travelling to compete in Fontainebleau and will also provide back up to the above team as reserves. David will be riding Koyuna Sun Magic, jointly owned by David along with Mrs Maggie Doel and Mrs Jane James whilst Lucy will be riding Mr Chunky who she owns with Mr Huw Lloyd, Mr Christopher and Mrs Sarita Perkins.

Philip Surl commented on the potential Team GBR representatives: “We are heading to France with a potentially very strong contingent of British riders to defend our 2013 Nations Cup title.”

“The result of any Nations Cup competition depends very much on the preparations going to plan early in the season but we will keep our fingers crossed for a smooth run up to the competition at Fontainebleau.”

Yogi Breisner added: “In addition to the selected CICO team, Britain will be very well represented in Fontainebleau with many established as well as exciting new combinations heading there as part of their early season campaign.”

“The primary purpose of campaigning the CICO Nations Cup series is to give riders who have not been regular members of Senior Championship teams experience of working and competing within a team environment and to get them out competing against the best continental riders.”

The Equestrian World Class Programme has been funded through Exchequer and National Lottery funds, via UK Sport since 1998.

Further information about the FEI Nations Cup Series and competition dates can be located on the FEI website.

ECB Client Capt. Geoff Curran Takes First Grand Prix Win With Mullaghbane by Allen Gutowski

Capt. Geoff Curran claimed a first Grand Prix on Saturday when taking the penultimate leg of the GAIN/Alltech Autumn Grand Prix League with the Minister for Defences Mullaghbane.

Curran has had a productive season so far with the son of Parco and came close to the top on several occasions, including a second in the Premier Series at National Balmoral in July. The Army rider is best known as an Eventer for the Army Equitation School having represented Ireland at World Equestrian Games and Olympic Games. Capt. Curran was a previous winner of the Eventing World Cup Qualifier at Tattersalls with Kilkishen in 2009.

Despite not recording the fastest time of the day, Curran left all the fences intact and finished just over three seconds clear of his nearest rival with a time of 40.31 in the €3,000 class sponsored by Shires Equestrian.

Eddie Moloney got closest to Curran with the 7 Year Old Douglas Hill. The pair came away with a clean sheet in 43.37 which proved good enough for second place.

Young Rider Emma O'Dwyer and local rider Patrick Byrne were the only other double clears with the pair recording much slower times. Riding HHS Figero, O'Dwyer stopped the clock in 49.20 for third while Byrne finished in 51.09 with BGS Courage in fourth.

National Grand Prix League Champion, Greg Broderick had the two fastest times with Noel Cawley's Rincarina and Lisa Cawley's Golden Exchange. With both horses recording 4 faults, Rincarina broke the beam at 38.06 while the latter recorded a time of 38.59 for sixth and leave Broderick ruing what might have been.

Ahead of the final leg of the GAIN/Alltech Autumn Grand Prix League at the Cavan International Show next Friday, there is no change at the head of affairs with Capt. Michael Kelly still in front on 26 points, four ahead of Alexander Butler. Capt. Michael Kelly is bidding to become the first Army Rider to win a Grand Prix League Title.

Watch a video overview of the ECB Equine Spa - see how it work! Cold Salt Hydrotherapy is used to treat and prevent a multitude of injuries in 35°F / 2°C saltwater.  The spa has successfully addressed virtually all lower leg injuries.  Treatment temperature alone induces a massive rush of blood and circulation which otherwise would not be present. This drug free therapy can be used for injury prevention and also to increase mobility and reduce swelling in the limbs before and after competitive events and training.

Shooting Times talks to ECB Equine Spa owner, Emma Hawthorn by Allen Gutowski

Her clients seem to agree...
